What is integrative medicine?

According to the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine, "Integrative Medicine is the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing."


Lawrence Rosen, MD

 

Lawrence Rosen, MD is an integrative pediatrician and co-author of Treatment Alternatives for Children, an evidence-based guide for parents interested in natural solutions for common childhood ailments. He is the founder of one of the country's first "green" pediatric practices, The Whole Child Center, in Oradell, NJ, and serves as Medical Advisor to the Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center at HackensackUMC. Dr. Rosen is a founding member and Past Chair of the AAP Section on Integrative Medicine and is appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at UMDNJ. A graduate of New York Medical College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he completed his residency and chief residency in pediatrics at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Dr. Rosen has been featured on Good Morning America, CNN, and Imus in the Morning, and he is a frequently cited expert on children's and environmental health matters. He is a contributing editor and pediatric columnist for Kiwi Magazine, as well as a contributing author/editor for several books, including Integrative Pediatrics, Green Baby, and Pediatric Clinics of North America: Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Dr. Rosen serves on many integrative health advisory boards, including the Holistic Moms Network, Teleosis Institute, IntegrativePractitioner.com and Integrative Healthcare Symposium, Integrative Touch for Kids, PedCAM, Kula for Karma, and MarbleJam Kids.


Heather Jeney, MD

Heather Jeney, MD joined the Whole Child Center after serving as Academic Hospitalist at the Goryeb Children's Hospital in Morristown, NJ. She is committed to the holistic and integrative care of children, including certification in medical acupuncture and clinical homeopathy. After completing her undergraduate degree at Miami University, Dr. Jeney received her MD from UMDNJ/New Jersey Medical School and completed her pediatric residency training at New York University. She is board-certified in pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.



Stacey M. Linwood, MD

Stacey M. Linwood, MD is a general pediatrician who has practiced primary care pediatrics for nearly 20 years, including more than 10 years at a private practice in Bergen County, NJ. Dr. Linwood graduated from Yale University and studied medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her Pediatrics residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center/Babies Hospital in New York City. After completing her residency, Dr. Linwood practiced in Boston at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, an HMO affiliated with the Harvard Medical School and the Harvard teaching hospitals, primarily Boston Children’s Hospital and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

She is very excited to be joining The Whole Child Center. She has always been dedicated to taking care of the whole person, with a focus on both physical and mental health issues. She has always believed that taking the time to get to know her patients and their families is an extremely important aspect of delivering excellent medical care. Dr. Linwood’s particular areas of interest are asthma management, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, eating disorders and the affects of psychological factors on health and disease.

Dr. Linwood currently lives in Bergen County, NJ with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys watching her daughters play basketball in her free time.


Penelope Gay Sheely, MD

Penelope Gay Sheely, MD focuses on natural healing practices to promote the body's innate healing ability. After completing her pediatric residency at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, Dr. Sheely worked in the pediatric Emergency Room at Montefiore. Before joining the Whole Child Center, she opened her own private practice in Westchester, New York. She has over 200 hours of training in Cranial Sacral Therapy, which is a gentle, hands-on-healing technique that releases energy blocks and realigns the body and the flow of cerebral spinal fluid. Dr. Sheely integrates nutrition, yoga, Reiki and Cranial Sacral Therapy as part of a holistic approach to health and wellness. Dr. Sheely has four children.


Rebecca Ganz, CPNP

Rebecca Ganz, CPNP is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who joins the Whole Child Center with nearly 20 years of experience. She has a longstanding passion to provide holistic care to children and their families. Rebecca has an extensive background in neurology and her areas of interest include newborns, breast feeding and caring for the complex needs of adolescents. Her previous positions include work in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Beth Israel Medical Center (NY) and at a primary care pediatric office in Rockland County. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Thomas Jefferson University and achieved her Advance Practice Nursing degree from New York University. She holds a national certification in Pediatrics. Rebecca lives with her husband and three children in Bergen County and enjoys playing golf, reading, and practicing yoga in her free time.


Karen Overgaard,
Clinical Coordinator

Karen Overgaard is a recognized expert in the field of holistic nursing. She is a member of the American Holistic Nurses Association and serves on the Advisory Board for Integrative Touch For Kids. She has more than twenty years clinical nursing experience, including her work with Dr. Rosen as a primary care pediatric nurse. Karen is certified as an instructor in infant massage, yoga, fitness and dance; additionally, she is a Reiki Master. Karen is a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (NYC) and coordinated the Kids' Weigh to Health program at Pascack Valley Hospital. She teaches yoga classes for special-needs children and their families, and she has assisted in teaching creative movement to children with autism in a pilot after-school program.
