RESEARCH:

J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board Grant, Madrid, Spain (September 2003-June 2004)
Spent 9 months at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III in Madrid, researching Spain’s National Health Service, taking classes in their school of public health, and carrying out a research project on coordination of care for asthmatic children under a socialized health system.

PRESENTATION:

Asthma research presented at XXVIII National Convention of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology in Murcia, Spain, May 6, 2004.

NIH Minority Research Training Grant, Lima, Peru (June 2001-August 2001)
Worked with malnourished children in the shantytown of Nueva Pamplona under the auspices of the Instituto de Investigación Nutricional. We conducted nutritional assessments of the children, then provided education and counseling to families.

ACTIVITIES:

Pediatric Emergency Room (September 2001-May 2005) Created a program for medical students to volunteer in the pediatric ER. Students read to children, engage them in therapeutic play, and distribute materials about child health care.

Hospital San Rafael, Madrid, Spain (February 2000-July 2000) Implemented a volunteer program for pediatric oncology patients and volunteered with African children brought to the hospital for care through NGO: "Tierra de Hombres".
